An Existential-Humanistic approach to psychotherapy can be a foundation for all therapists seeking to do deep and life-changing work with their clients. The E-H approach is based on core ways of being and working with clients that help facilitate greater awareness, greater sense of choice, increased agency and adaptiveness and a deeper connection to self and others – all in the service of healing and growing. There are core capacities and skills an E-H therapist uses to help clients effectively explore and work through their existential predicaments so they can more fully access what deeply matters to them.
On October 29, EHI Is hosting a two-hour virtual community space for examining and invoking The Person of the Therapist. Personal, relational, and cosmological aspects are considered in group discussion, practical demonstration, small group engagement, and will be flexible in nature to follow emergent wishes from the group.
In this workshop, the presenter will introduce an original approach to psychotherapy based upon the premise that emotional healing is fundamentally a psycho-spiritual event. This approach offers a unique way of integrating the values of authentic presence, intentionality, and meaning rooted in the Humanistic-Existential-Phenomenological orientation with the spiritual depth of Buddhist and Transpersonal Psychology. Its theoretical foundation is based upon the interweaving of three elemental assertions (see the event page for more details).

Reflecting on his experiences and observations as an artist and mental health counselor, Joaquin Lopez, LPC, will present ideas that construct what he coins as a drama-informed perspective toward life. This perspective is garnered from years of producing storytelling events about local community members and noticing common themes in their trials and tribulations. He explores the power of storytelling as a tool rooted in existential-humanistic theory for both community and personal healing. Joaquin will draw from real life examples in working with adults in and outside counseling office.

Join The Existential Movement in partnership with OnlineEvents.co.uk for a transformative workshop led by Dr. Kirk Schneider, a prominent figure in existential-humanistic and existential-integrative psychology. In this session, Dr. Schneider will unveil and demonstrate the Experiential Democracy Dialogue, a pioneering method he has developed to counteract the deep-seated and perilous polarization affecting our societies and the wider world. This polarization is not only widespread but also represents one of the most pressing social and psychological challenges of our time. Dr. Schneider advocates for an urgent, depth, and existentially oriented approach to healing.
In this session, participants will explore interventions in sex therapy, engaging in thoughtful discourse that honors the complexity and diversity of human sexuality.
These EHNW salons provide a safe and inclusive space for individuals to explore desires, fears, and questions surrounding sexuality. Rooted in the existential-humanistic approach, we embrace the belief that each person possesses the capacity for self-awareness, personal growth, and meaningful connection.
"Old Saybrook 3" commemorates the 60th anniversary of the original Old Saybrook conference in 1964, where humanistic psychology was formalized. It also serves as a follow-up to the "Old Saybrook 2" conference in 2000, which aimed both to rekindle the Third Force vision of psychology articulated at "Old Saybrook 1" and to re-vision humanistic psychology for the new millennium. Now, almost a quarter-century later, to keep humanistic psychology relevant for new and future generations, it is again time to recontextualize our movement in and for the 2020s.
