Hybrid Event in Portland, Oregon

What insights can we glean from adopting a drama-informed perspective on life, enriching the human experience and our understanding of the world? How can a drama-informed perspective influence motivation and the ability to think creatively about healing? Above all, how do we motivate clients to embody themselves and become the lead actors in their dramas, work through the circumstances they have been given, and move beyond their fate?

Reflecting on his experiences and observations as an artist and mental health counselor, Joaquin Lopez, LPC, will present ideas that construct what he coins as a drama-informed perspective toward life. This perspective is garnered from years of producing storytelling events about local community members and noticing common themes in their trials and tribulations. He explores the power of storytelling as a tool rooted in existential-humanistic theory for both community and personal healing. Joaquin will draw from real life examples in working with adults in and outside counseling office.

Joaquin Lopez is a mental health counselor whose therapeutic frame is Jungian-existential. He serves on the Existential-Humanistic Northwest Professional Organization (EHNW) board and, in the fall, will begin seminar at the Carl Jung Institute of Santa Fe. Selected to serve as a Creative Laureate for the City of Portland for 2021-2026, he advocates for arts & culture, and creativity. As a performing artist, he blends music, storytelling, and language to inspire community engagement and healing. He has over twenty years of small business experience in the service industry. Joaquin managed professional leadership programs for grassroots and established Latino leaders at the non-profit organization Latino Network. He continues to serve as a leadership consultant for non-profit organizations. His private practice is in Theel House, located in the historic district of Beaverton, Oregon.
