EHNW Lunch and Learn
Date: Friday, 4/11/2025
Time: 1pm–2:30pm Pacific Daylight Savings Time
Fee: $20 General
Online: via Zoom
In this Lunch & Learn, Kayla will be taking the time to explore the proclivity towards an either/or mindset when it comes to how we approach work with clients and find our space in the world of theoretical orientations (especially early on). Specifically, she will be discussing her turbulent journey of navigating the dualism that was both absorbed and imposed on her approach to CBT and E-H, and how over time, she has come to release her grip on a dualistic mindset and discover a beautiful harmony between the two. This journey involved learning to discover and embrace the different parts of who she is and allow her experiences to shape how she engages the world in a way that resonates with the authenticity of her soul. Participants will be exploring the impact of attachments and domestication (as described in ancient Toltec wisdom) and how to recognize and exercise choice amid a world that tries so hard to make us fit the status quo.
Bio Statement from Kayla: “I’m Kayla Birkeland and I’m a licensed therapist in the state of Washington. I recently transitioned (September 2024) to a group counseling practice in Vancouver, WA, and currently provide individual therapy to people 11 years old and up. Previously, I worked with youth in schools (K-12). I started my journey in community mental health and then spent 4 years at a small special education behavioral school in the Vancouver School District. My professional passions are working with those who have experienced trauma, the neurodivergent community, and those who are part of disenfranchised groups. I feel strongly about social justice and helping people find their voice and find spaces where their voices can be heard. Personally, I have been married for 14 ½ years to a wonderfully supportive spouse accepting of all my quirks and neurospicyness. In my free time I enjoy boxing, being outdoors, and spending time with loved ones.”
