An Invitation from the Researcher:
Hello,
My name is Kyle Michael Dory, and I am a doctoral candidate at California Southern University. I am currently conducting a qualitative research study exploring how humanistic and existential-oriented therapists develop and intentionally use their “self” (e.g., authenticity, presence, empathy, and self-awareness) within the therapeutic relationship, and how these factors may contribute to long-term client outcomes.
I am inviting licensed therapists who identify with humanistic or existential approaches to consider participating in this study. To be eligible, participants must be fully licensed (e.g., Psychologist, LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, or equivalent), be at least 18 years of age, have a minimum of three years of post-licensure clinical experience, and currently practice within the United States.
Participation involves one confidential, semi-structured interview lasting approximately 50–90 minutes, conducted via secure video conferencing (Zoom). With participant consent, interviews will be audio and video recorded to ensure accurate transcription and data integrity. Video recordings will not be used for analysis and will be deleted after transcription, with only audio data retained for research purposes. Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants may decline to answer any question or withdraw from the study at any time without penalty.
While there is no direct compensation, participants may find value in reflecting on their therapeutic identity, development, and use of self in clinical practice.
If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please contact me at:

Thank you for considering contributing to this research.
Warm regards,

Though this study is not affiliated with EHI, we find that this study dovetails with trainings that EHI holds. Many of our past students and event participants will likely find these study goals resonate with their work.
