2. Experiential Training Course Module: Existential-Humanistic Therapy: Principles of Practice

For those interested in engaging in EHI Experiential Retreat only.
The Experiential Training Course Module is a hands-on 6-day/5-night retreat for students who want to participate in our experiential training without the additional course work of the Foundations Certificate Program. Experiential Training Course – Retreat Only Module

At the experiential trainings, we can apply theories to cases, watch the work of our mentors and each other. By living together we experience an intimacy that creates an environment that reduces barriers and the ensuing connections foster a greater capacity for learning. The use of transparency within therapeutic boundaries has influenced the work I am doing with my clients. I am more relaxed in session and I believe there is more connection between us when I find a way to be more revealing yet remain therapeutic.

2021 Experiential Training Course Retreat Dates

Sunday, Oct 10th, 2021 - Friday, Oct 15th, 2020

The experiential retreat is held at Westerbeke Ranch Retreat Center in Sonoma, just north of San Francisco.

The Experiential Training is the Heart of EHI!

EHI Faculty, noted leaders in the field, emphasize the key ingredients of the E-H approach to model how students can create safe, collaborative and life-changing therapeutic encounters. They demonstrate how the therapeutic relationship, in and of itself is a vehicle for healing and change and how therapeutic “presence” cultivates sensitivity and appropriate responsiveness to clients emotions, relational patterns and inner worlds. These two essential principles: building the therapeutic relationship and working in the “here-and-now” are the foundational blocks of E-H therapy and EHI training.

The experiential intensive involves a combination of relationship-building, learning of theoretical foundations, and first-hand experiences wherein theory comes to life.

I gained a deeper understanding of my own context and how that has directed and influenced so much of my existence. I have always had an understanding certainly that what is experienced in the early, formative years is paramount in shaping our belief systems and personality, but somehow I have never before been able to feel this in such a palpable way.

The Existential Moment: The Goal of Therapy

Happy New Year!

The ringing in of the New Year is a time for new beginnings. The celebration of a new year dates back to the Babylonians, and current cultures the world over continue to embrace comparable rites and rituals.

The New Year’s resolution is a celebrated example of ringing in the new in the US. We commit to a change, make a promise to do something different in our lives in a process of growth (sometimes, sadly, a fleeting process). Notably, the promise of the resolution presumes a before and after, an old and new. The new is our goal.
